His involvement with the AOC spans over two decades, having first been elected to its Executive in 2001 and serving as Vice President from 2016 to 2022. Chesterman's commitment to Olympic sports is further exemplified by his role as a board member of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia and his position as Chair of the Australian Olympic Foundation.

Chesterman has made history in Australian Olympic leadership by becoming the first individual to lead both summer and winter Olympic teams.
